Take me out to the ball game! – Apex employee Morale Event
Written by: Seth Stell
The air is crisp and the skies are a vibrant blue. What better way to enjoy the turn of seasons than attending a game at Ace’s ball park. The RENO ACES are the Triple A (affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks) Baseball Club located in the heart of Downtown Reno. At Apex, Kurt strives to provide his employees with activities and events to attend and in June he decided to host the early summer morale event at the Reno Aces Ball Park. The game matchup during our event would be Reno Aces vs. Portland Beavers.
I will be honest and admit that this was my first morale event, as I was a new hire in June, but I was very excited to meet and mingle with the Apex team. We started our day at Duffy’s (a restaurant located at the top level of Aces ball park) where we had a choice of 3 various entrees. Once we completed our lunch, we all migrated down to our seats which were stellar!
Once we located our seats, myself and a couple of employees returned to the game patio to embark on a game of Corn Hole (similar to horseshoes, but with bean bags and a hole in a wooden box). Now, typically I rock at this game but my partner at the time (not going to name drop) was sub-par on his performance, which made it very difficult to defeat the other Apex duo. At any rate, Corn Hole was the ice breaker I needed to warm up to the staff. After the game, I began to feel welcomed into the Apex family.
The actual game was of course great as always! The weather was perfect, the sky was vibrant and the beverages were quenching. As for the game, it was purely offensive for both teams, which makes it very entertaining to watch. The game had a total of 21 runs, 13 of which belonged to the Portland Beavers. Despite the Aces’ loss, I had a great time meeting the Apex staff and getting to know them outside of the office. They are all very interesting people with great personalities.
The early summer morale event was a true success. The day was filled with smiles, laughter and the blissful sound of a leather ball leaving the end of a wooden bat! I can’t wait for the next morale event. I will be working on my Corn Hole skills so I can avenge my embarrassing defeat…ha ha ha. Good times!
