  • Alane Operations Manager

Kurt Frohlich PMP, MCP

Founder and President

Professional Background:

As Apex’s President, Kurt is responsible for its overall vision, establishing and maintaining its high quality and standards, and developing excellence across all service offerings for a multitude of clients. Prior to founding Apex, Kurt worked for 5 years as a software trainer, and then as an inside sales consultant for an international corporate training company. Before that, he owned and operated Wings ‘N’ Things for 8 years – the best chicken wing restaurant on the West Coast! He is also past-president of the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) Sierra Nevada Chapter and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®).

Educational Background:

Kurt is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Education, with an English major and a Computer Education minor.

Personal Highlights:

Kurt lives in Reno with his wife, Dawn, and a daughter in high school. His other daughter attends college at Oregon State University. His family enjoys sports, music, travel, and various activities with friends and family.

Kurt’s personal hobbies include photography, physical fitness, attending live concerts, and playing the electric guitar (poorly, but with enthusiasm!).

 

Diane Schroder

Vice President of Operations

Professional Background:

As a Human Resources Executive with over 24 years of experience, Diane brings her knowledge of best practices to everyday decision making at Apex. She started her career in Operations and was drawn to the impact of Human Resources within an organization. Her work experience covers both public and private sectors in a variety of industries. She is also an experienced instructional designer who has delivered training to both employees and customers of Fortune 500 companies. Diane’s current role brings together her experience in Human Resources and Operations to provide a top-notch Apex employee experience.

Educational Background:

Diane started her career with a Communications degree from Boise State University. She became SPHR Certified in 2005. She received her CAPM credential in 2013.

Personal Highlights:

Diane believes the best thing after having kids is having grandkids. Her new motto is: Grandma’s my name, spoiling’s my game! Diane also enjoys traveling extensively and visiting UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Sites.

David Millar MBA, PMP

Vice President of Corporate Strategy

Professional Background:

As Vice President of Corporate Strategy, David is responsible for shaping the future direction of Apex by working directly with senior leaders on critical business issues. David also develops strategic projects and goals, researches current industry and competitor trends, and is involved with Apex’s proven Quick Launch Team model for solving client’s critical high risk issues. Most recently David was appointed to the Entrepreneurship Nevada (EN) Board of Directors and believes Northern Nevada's business environment and community will flourish with education and fostering the entrepreneurial spirit.

Prior to working for Apex, David worked in numerous professional capacities across varying industries, including senior surveillance agent for a world class gaming resort, contract computer programmer for the Department of Defense, senior systems and network administrator for a national turn-key insurance agency, and a radiation protection specialist at an Ivy League University.

Educational Background:

David is a graduate of the University of Phoenix, Reno where he received an MBA. His undergraduate studies include Computer Science, Criminal Justice, and Nuclear Engineering.

Personal Highlights:

David lives in Reno with his wife, Whitney, where they enjoy endlessly walking their three dogs, hiking, and exploring Nevada back roads. His personal interests include traveling and the trials and tribulations of the Boston Red Sox.

Anne Paine PMP

Learning Solutions Manager

Professional Background:

Anne’s role as Apex’s Learning Solutions Manager includes the oversight of all curriculum design and development efforts for several Fortune 100 companies, and leading training and development programs for Apex’s internal team. Anne is skilled in all forms of E-Learning, M-Learning, instructor-led learning, or any blended approach. Prior to joining Apex, Anne was a Master Trainer and Lead Multi-Media Developer for the State of California. Her creation of state-of-the-art training material including gamification elements raised the standard of training delivery in her industry. Anne is the current president of the ASTD (American Society for Training and Development) Sierra Nevada chapter.

Educational Background:

Anne earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Engineering, with a minor in Interactive Game Design from the University of Nevada. She also has completed extensive course work in Graphic Communications. Anne also holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Personal Highlights:

When not working on training development, Anne enjoys spending time with her family hiking, camping, kayaking and of course, playing games.

Shelly Pierson MBA, PMP

Client Engagement Lead

Professional Background:

As the Client Engagement Lead, Shelly manages client contracts, staff assignments, and works with new and existing clients to synchronize incoming work requests with Apex talent.
Shelly has a diverse background in Information Technology, Contracting, Quality Assurance, Rate Development, Accounting, and Human Resources. Prior to her position at Apex, Shelly worked in both the private and public sectors and was also an Industry Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, teaching project management courses to both undergraduate and graduate-level students.

Educational Background:

Shelly has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and a Master of Business Administration degree, both from the University of Nevada, Reno. Shelly also has a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Shelly is a member of the Project Management Institute local Reno chapter.

Personal Highlights:

Outside of Apex, Shelly loves to spend time with her family, travel, camp, hike, do yoga, ski, read, and have fun. This past summer she and her husband joined a hiking group and spent 14 Saturdays hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail, which has been a goal of hers for years!

Alane Schnelker

Operations and Marketing Manager

Professional Background:

Alane’s role as Apex’s Operations and Marketing Manager includes the multi-State oversight of our vendor relationships, company procurement, accounts payable, accounts receivable, asset management, client billing and state tax filing. Alane also manages our Social Media Marketing, Website Content, and Community Service initiatives. Additionally, Alane manages payroll and billing for Apex Performance Solutions, Limited, Ireland.

Alane is also a member of our Learning Solutions team. As a professional voice talent, Alane provides technical writing and records audio for internal and external training created by Apex.

Alane is the current VP of Finance of the ATD (Association for Talent Development) Sierra Nevada chapter.

Educational Background:

Alane earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Information and Decision Systems from San Diego State University.

Personal Highlights:

Alane lives in Reno with her husband Steve, and their two children. She volunteers for the Reno Rodeo, Girl Scouts USA, and Boy Scouts of America. She loves traveling (London is her favorite city in the world), camping (at Lake Tahoe) and geo-caching (a great way to get the kids on a hike!).
